Do i need to know how to sail to participate?
Not at all! Anyone can participate, even children as young as 5-6 years. All ages are welcome on board.
Gorm and Helene are happy to teach you everything you need to know to participate.
Do I need to be physically strong to be able to participate?

Will I get seasick?
When we sail in the South Funen archipelago there is a VERY SMALL chance of seasickness.
But, should you be unlucky and feel nauseaus, we have plenty of activities and fresh air to alleviate the symptoms. If we know we will be sailing for more than a few hours in waters where there is a possibility of waves, we will let you know in advance so that you have the opportunity to take one of the seasickness tablets or accu-pressure bracelets we have available on board.
Do I have to cook my own meals?
Only if you want to!
Gorm and Helene love to cook, so if you would rather sit back and enjoy a good book from our ship’s library, or go for a walk, you are welcome to do so. There is always someone who wants to help.
Why is it so expensive?
We don’t think it is either 😉
Not if you look at what you get for the price:
- 3-8 hours of daily sailing on board Aron. (certified commercial ship by the Danish Maritime Authority)
- Certified crew – you are in safe hands during the entire trip.
- Sailing instruction, guidance and teaching – as much as you can handle 🙂
- Breakfast, lunch, dinner prepared on board with a focus on ecology, health and seasonal ingredients.
- Drinks inkluded (coffe, tea, water, beer, softdrinks and wine).
- Morning and afternoon snacks.
- Accommodation in a shared two-person room with washbasin and central heating.
- Duvet and pillow as well as bed linen.
- Possibility of a morning/evening dip in the sea for the adventurous.
- Cozy gathering with 10 guests.
- You are helping to actively support and preserve the Danish maritime heritage.
Is there a shower on board?
Yes. There is a shower, but we recommend using the high quality facilities on shore. It is better for the ship and the environment. They are (almost) always free 🙂
Is there a normal toilet on board?
Yes, although it flushes with salt water to save on fresh water. You do have to be careful not to put anything into it other than what it is intended for ( what comes out of you and toilet paper), because everything has to go down through small pipes and pumps that the skipper would rather not take apart when they get clogged.
Is there heating on board?
Yes, Aron is equipped with central heating. Fresh warm air is blown into all cabins if it is cool outside.
It is also possible to blow cool nightair air from outside into the cabins during the summer to avoid stuffiness.
Can i book the whole ship for a private trip?
Yes, we do lots of private trips for families or groups of friends. Then you have the ship to yourself, only accompanied by Gorm and Helene who will teach you everything you need to know to assist in sailing the ship. We have 5 two-person cabins.
Can i book a single berth on board for a trip?
Yes, we do lots of trips where it is possible to book a single birth on board.
Then you will share the experience with 9 other like minded sailing adventurers. If you wish to have a cabin to yourself, we charge +50%, otherwise you will share with someone of the same sex.
Is it hard work all the time?
Not at all.
There is plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the view and the sound of the waves against the side of the ship and the wind in the sails.
Do you sleep in hammoks on board?
No, Aron has 5 cabins with two single bunks in each.
We also have bunks that suit the broad-shouldered or the extra tall.
Is there time to relax on board?
Plenty!
Gorm has a motto that we start out slowly, and then we turn down the pace from there. Right untill the wind and the sails require us to be active again.
Do we sail during the night as well?
No, unfortunately this is seldom possible.
We need extra crew for overnight voyages due to resting hour regulations, so this is only done when neccesary on longer trips.
If you want to experience the magic of night sailing we hire extra crew on our trips to and from Aalborg and Bornholm so we can offer longer streches at sea.
Isn’t it boring just sailing?
We certainly don’t think so!
There is always something to do, whether you are the adventurous one who wants to learn knots, trim sails or steer the ship, or whether you would rather find a quiet corner and enjoy the calm and the unique sounds and movements of the ship.
We always adapt the sailing to both the weather and the guests. The more active and participating you are, the more challenging and active sailing we can offer. If, on the other hand, you prefer to relax and not get too caught up in the ropes, then we set a little less sail and make a few more swimming stops.
Do we visit any ports?
Yes, we visit a new port every day.
Some are beautiful old market towns such as Svendborg, Faaborg and Sønderborg, others are a little smaller and more atmospheric such as Marstal and Ærøskøbing and then there are all the small islands with their unique island life and quiet little harbors that are often so small that we have to lie on the outside. We always try to show our guests a mix of the different types of ports.
